Nocturne

Nocturne began as a study of how a single seam can hold an entire silhouette. The first toile was cut in calico on a Tuesday evening and hung, unfinished, for three weeks before anyone touched it again.

The bodice is hand-draped in silk faille, boned along its princess seams so the structure disappears into the line rather than announcing itself. The hem is rolled by hand, a detail that took three fittings to settle correctly against the body.

It is a quiet piece. Seen from across a room it reads as one unbroken column, which was the point.
